With months of hundred-degree afternoons, a Laredo pool is in use far longer than one further north. Equipment works harder to match: pumps, filters and heaters clock more hours, which is why sizing new equipment correctly matters more here than in a milder climate.
Local supply runs mineral-heavy. Scale at the tile line and cloudy water turn up even on well-kept pools, and heater exchangers and salt cells wear faster for it. It changes which interior finish is worth paying for.
Much of the city sits on shrink-swell clay over caliche. The clay moves with every wet and dry cycle: cracked decking, shifted coping, shells needing structural attention sooner than they would elsewhere. Caliche is also why excavation on a new build needs planning, not optimism.

Empty the pool so the shell can be worked on dry.
Chip out old plaster, pull damaged tile and coping back to sound material.
Reset coping with slope, set new tile with an expansion joint at the beam.
Plaster, quartz or pebble applied evenly across the prepped shell.
Fill and bring the chemistry in so the new finish cures the way it should.
Questions
Plaster is the least expensive and shows wear and staining first. Quartz aggregate holds color and resists staining noticeably longer. Pebble costs the most, lasts the longest and feels coarser underfoot. In hard Laredo water the aggregate finishes generally earn their extra cost.
Yes, if the finish, tile and coping are still sound. It is only worth bundling deck work into a full remodel when those other surfaces are due anyway.
It depends on scope. Resurfacing alone is quicker than resurfacing plus tile, coping and deck. New finishes also need cure time before the pool goes back into normal use. We give you the schedule before we drain anything.
